You Didn’t Have to Tell Me By Tim Hodson

In case you didn’t know already, this week is National Mosquito Control Awareness Week.

Each year the American Mosquito Control Association designates the week of June 26 as Awareness week to help educate “the general public about the significance of mosquitoes in their daily lives and the important service provided by mosquito control workers throughout the United State and worldwide.”

After spending last week on vacation in northern Wisconsin, you didn’t have to make me aware of mosquitoes – the pests were doing a mighty fine job of it themselves. And I’ve got the bite marks to prove it!

The recent rains in the upper Midwest have really created a bumper crop of mosquitoes this year. We did everything we could to avoid getting bitten, but those little guys are sneaky and somehow managed to take a pint or two of my Type O+.

If you are in an area where mosquitoes are a problem and you’re looking for ways to tell them to “Buzz off!” you might want to check out the AMCA’s website. It’s got some great educational tips and facts about mosquito control like the Three Ds of Protection: Drain, Dress and Defend.

Oh well, we are only in the first official week of summer, so I know I have plenty of scratching days ahead of me.
