Cornell to Host Field Day on Aug. 8

Cornell University’s annual Field Day will take place Aug. 8, in Ithaca, New York.

The morning program will take place inStocking Hall at the Pepsico Auditorium. Neil Mattson will serves as the host.

The morning schedule includes:

8:00-8:30 — Registration
8:30-8:45 — Welcome and announcements
*8:45-9:15 —  What you need to know about Genetically Modified plants to answer your customer’s questions Margaret Smith, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Cornell University
*9:15-10:15  Biocontrol of greenhouse pests, what’s working and what’s new? Suzanne Wainwright-Evans, Buglady Consulting
10:15-10:45 —Break and visit vendors
*10:45-11:30 — Invasive Species challenges and solutions in NYS Carrie Brown-Lima, Director of the NY Invasive Species Research Institute Cornell University
11:30-12:15 — Why on earth grow vegetables on a roof? Mark Winterer, Owner and Director of Operations, Recover Green Roofs

The afternoon will take place at Bluegrass Lane and the schedule is:

1:00-1:30 — Lunch and visit vendors – Lunch sponsored by The Lambert Peat Moss Company
1:15 — Announcements and orientation to flower trials
1:30-2:00 — Explore the annual and perennial trial beds at your leisure
2:00-3:00 — Learning stations (30 minutes each)

*Creating a pollinator-friendly garden, Scott McArt, Cornell University
*Biocontrol Q & A, Suzanne Wainwright-Evans, Buglady Consulting
Guided Tour of Annual Gardens and Special Projects including grafted tomatoes, retail potting mixes, reblooming hydrangea and pollinator mixes, Kendra Hutchins, Cornell University

3:00-4:00 Ice cream social sponsored by Lambert Peat Moss (Families welcome to join us at this time.)
