Mast Young Plants Releases 2021 Trial Garden Report

The team at Mast Young Plants — located in Grand Rapids, Michigan — recently published its 2021 Trial Garden Results & Data. This wrap-up of their 2021 season contains their trial favorites, top performers, consumer picks and more.

The Mast garden is one of the stops along the annual Michigan Garden Plant Tour, attracting visitors from all regions and levels of the industry. The 2021 trial garden featured: over 100+ genera; 135+ new additions for 2021/2022, 1,500+ varieties in raised landscape beds, hanging baskets and other planters; and 500+ unique, custom-designed hanging baskets and patio pot combinations.

5. Petunia ‘Sanguna Banana Candy’ (Syngenta Flowers)
6. Petunia ‘Dekko Sorbet’ (Syngenta Flowers)
7. Nemesia ‘Nesia Inca’ (Danziger)
8. Calibrachoa ‘Colibri Pink Bling’ (Danziger)
9. Calibrachoa ‘Calitastic Bordeaux Star’ (Westhoff)
10. Petunia ‘Blanket Silver Surprise’ (Green Fuse Botanicals)

The top five consumer favorites were:

Other standout varieties include:
1. Coleus ‘Stained Glassworks Velvet’ (Dümmen Orange)
2. Petunia ‘Headliner Enchanted Sky’ (Selecta One)
3. Sedum ‘Gold Mound’ (Selecta One)
4. Phlox ‘Gisele Hot Pink’ (Selecta One)
5. New Guinea Impatiens ‘Sun Harmony Violet’ (Danziger)
