On Dec. 8, GPN hosted its fifth annual Big Grower Executive Webinar titled Outlook 2023: What’s on the Horizon in the Coming Year for Consumers, Legislation, Labor and Your Plants.

Bridget Behe, Ph.D., Michigan State University; Sara Neagu-Reed and Evan Lee, AmericanHort; and Diane Blazek, All-America Selections all provided important insights on issues facing our industry, helping growers make sense of these challenging topics and how they could influence the industry in 2023.

Behe is a green industry researcher and professor at Michigan State University in the department of horticulture.  She has conducted over 100 consumer and market research projects on horticultural products, both edible and ornamental. She has written more than 500 publications in the trade press and peer-reviewed journals.

Neagu-Reed is director, advocacy and government affairs, for AmericanHort. Prior to joining AmericanHort, she served as associate director of federal policy for the California Farm Bureau Federation, where she advocated for the interests of California farmers and ranchers before Congress, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), and the media on legislative and regulatory affairs.

Lee is director, policy and government relations, for AmericanHort. He has more than a decade of experience advancing public policy in Congress and the Administration, and prior to joining AmericanHort in 2021, he served as chief of staff for the Office of Congressional Relations and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Blazek the executive director of All-America Selections, which tests new varieties of seed and promotes those judged to perform best through AAS awards. She is also the executive director of the National Garden Bureau, a nonprofit that works to educate, motivate and inspire people with plants.
