GrowSpan opens Venlo greenhouse in Iowa

GrowSpan Greenhouse Structures will celebrate the grand opening of its new Venlo greenhouse with a ribbon-cutting event April 3 from noon to 3 p.m. at its Dyersville campus. The event will feature a formal ribbon-cutting at 1 p.m., guided tours and opportunities to connect with industry professionals.

The nearly one-acre Venlo greenhouse features 25,000 square feet of growing space with hot-dipped galvanized steel framing and 4 mm glass. It is equipped with motorized climate screens, hydronic heating, LED lighting and high-pressure foggers for year-round production.

Grand Opening invitation“With glass, the structure allows around 90% of natural sunlight to come through,” said Jena Jepson, head grower for GrowSpan. “The taller roof and large open space also help create a more homogenous growing environment compared to a traditional greenhouse.”

The facility is divided into three growing zones. One area uses deep water cultivation for lettuce, while the others employ suspended gutter systems for tomato and strawberry production. The attached headhouse provides 10,000 square feet of additional space for harvesting, processing and equipment storage.

GrowSpan plans to use the new greenhouse to showcase growing systems and technology while supplying fresh produce to the local community. Industry professionals and the public are invited to attend the grand opening.
