HRI opens applications for 2027 leadership opportunity

The Horticultural Research Institute has opened applications for its Leadership Academy Class of 2027, a one-year program designed to build leadership skills for professionals across the green industry.

The academy combines in-person training, online coursework and peer engagement. Organizers say the curriculum focuses on leadership development while expanding participants’ understanding of horticulture and strengthening industry connections.

“As we enter the fifth year of the HRI Leadership Academy, we continue to see how powerfully this program shapes the next generation of green industry leaders,” said HRI board president Jonathan Berry.

AmericanHort president and CEO Ken Fisher said the program helps strengthen organizations and the industry. “Graduates gain the skills to inspire their teams, improve their organizations and positively influence our broader community,” Fisher said in the release.

The application window is open through Feb. 6, 2026, with interviews scheduled for March and April. Class selections will be made in May, followed by a formal announcement at Cultivate’26, which runs July 11 to 14 in Columbus, Ohio.

AmericanHort covers tuition for the program and there is no application fee. Applications must be submitted through the HRI Leadership Academy website. Selection will be based on leadership potential, commitment to the horticulture industry and the ability to contribute to the sector.
