Source.ag launches AI for plant metrics, greater crop health

Source.ag has introduced Plant Balance Metrics, a new feature in its Source Workspace platform designed to give greenhouse growers greater insight into crop health.

The tool provides two measurements – Plant Balance Factor (PBF) and Generative Trend Indicator (GTI) – that translate plant and climate data into clear, actionable insights. PBF assesses whether a plant’s energy production and growth demands are in balance, while GTI shows whether a crop is prioritizing fruit and flower development or vegetative growth.

“For years, the greenhouse industry has sought a singular, clear answer to the fundamental question: ‘How is my crop truly doing?’” said Cedric Canovas, vice president of data and plant science at Source.ag. “Plant Balance Metrics distills complex biological processes into two intuitive metrics, providing growers with the quantitative clarity they’ve always needed to optimize their steering strategies.”

Growers can use the metrics to proactively adjust strategies, simulate future scenarios and track long-term stability. The feature was developed in collaboration with growers and is now available for tomato cultivation, with plans to expand to peppers and cucumbers.

Gordon Yakel, head grower of Delta View Farms, noted the system’s value: “As a grower, this is incredibly valuable. It helps me track crop stability over time.”

Source.ag says the new feature is intended to reduce risk, improve yields and strengthen decision-making in controlled environment agriculture.
