WPS expands automation in North American greenhouses
WPS, a horticultural automation company based in the Netherlands, has secured two major contracts aimed at advancing plant production and research systems in North America and Europe.
Spring Meadow Nursery in Michigan will be the first ornamental plant grower in North America to implement WPS’ automated delivery system. The system sorts plants and transports selected orders to packing stations, replacing manual labor and improving labor efficiency. The technology will also support e-commerce operations.
“This project is more than a contract—it’s a further step for this market into optimizing productivity and efficiency beyond just internal logistics,” said Conré Oostrom, CEO of WPS.
In a second deal, WPS was contracted by Bom Group to deliver an advanced Gantry system with a robotic arm to Wageningen University & Research (WUR) in the Netherlands. The system will automate crop trials, enabling faster, more consistent research. It is designed to support various plant research goals and is also adaptable for commercial greenhouse use.

Both contracts signal increased demand for automation in the global horticulture sector, driven by labor shortages and the need for scalable production methods. WPS, with nearly three decades of experience, is positioning itself to meet that demand through smart logistics and research solutions.

These developments reflect a broader industry trend toward automation in both production and research settings.
