Help Get Out the Vote!
Even though it is only June, the polls are now open!While 2013 may not be a major election year for politicians, this year (actually every year) is an election year for the American Garden Award.The American Garden Award is a popularity contest designed “to entice more consumers to the exciting world of garden flowers. [It] is a unique opportunity for the public to vote on a specific flower that they think has the most appealing garden characteristics.”There are four different varieties up for this year’s award and they can be seen at any of the 31 gardens participating in the award program. You can find a full list of those gardens here.The four “candidates” for the 2013 award are:-Impatiens ‘SunPatiens Compact Electric Orange’ bred by Sakata Ornamentals-Petunia ‘Surfinia Summer Double Pink’ bred by Suntory Flowers-Verbena ‘Lanai Candy Cane’ bred by Syngenta Flowers-Zinnia ‘Zahara Cherry’ bred by PanAmerican SeedThere are three different methods for voting for the American Garden Award:-Text a given code to a polling number-Go to www.americangardenaward.com and click on the flower of choice-Use a postage-paid voting postcards located at the gardens.The polls opened on June 1, and will remain open until Aug. 31. So help get the vote out.
