Free GPN Webinar to Tackle PGR ChallengesBy Tim Hodson

On Nov. 15, we will be presenting another free webinar in the GPN Plant Health Management series.

The topic for the one-hour webinar is “Advanced Techniques for Applying Plant Growth Regulators.” It will take place at 2 p.m. EST.

Our presenter is industry consultant Roger Styer of Styer’s Horticultural Consulting, Inc.

An industry veteran, Roger has provided technical services for the ornamental industry, both domestically and internationally, and has worked with companies throughout North America and in Asia, Central and South America, and Europe.

Earlier this month, he presented the first webinar in our 2018 series on “Identifying and Controlling the Top 5 Insect Pests in Ornamentals.” You can access that webinar for free on our website at www.gpnmag.com/edwebinar.

Most growers know how to use plant growth regulators fairly well to control growth of the various flowering crops they grow each year. However, things change. Every year varieties change, spacing requirements change, more crops are being grown during spring in larger containers and labor is becoming harder to find and more expensive.

During the webinar, some of the topics that Roger will cover include:

  • Knowing how to use drenches on combination liners before potting;
  • Using branching agents to cut down on trimming and fill out containers quicker;
  • Controlling growth on poinsettias without overdosing bracts; and
  • Figuring out vigor differences between varieties are every grower’s challenges.

He also will outline some advanced techniques for meeting these challenges and allow growers to do more to produce quality plants consistently.
