Will You #petalitforward This Week? By Tim Hodson

This Wednesday, Oct. 24, more than 400 Petal It Forward events will be taking place across the country.

The premise behind Petal It Forward is: a passerby receives two bouquets of flowers — one to keep, and one to share — and is asked to post a picture about it on social media with the hashtag #petalitforward.

Nevada recently joined the ranks of states participating in the Society of American Florists’ (SAF) 2018 Petal It Forward initiative, officially making the effort nationwide.

According to the SAF, 378 cities will be hosting 415 local Petal It Forward events this year.

The campaign’s goal is to raise consumer awareness of flower power through news coverage and social media posts.

The first Petal It Forward in 2015 included participation from industry members in 44 cities in 27 states. The next year, there were 262 events in 234 cities.

“We are thrilled by the enthusiasm of the industry to come together for a common goal to promote flower power in their local communities,” said Jennifer Sparks, SAF’s vice president of marketing. “We know that giving flowers is a gesture of connection – one that can bring people, even strangers, closer together. Let’s show the country a random act of kindness at its finest!”

The Petal It Forward events help demonstrate the Rutgers University research that shows flowers make people happy, as well as new research from the University of North Florida demonstrating that flowers also relieve stress.

SAF continues to update its list of local events so you and your company can still participate in the Petal It Forward campaign. “It’s not too late to plan a Petal It Forward event,” Sparks said. “Even handing out 20 to 50 bouquets or single stems can make a big impact for your business.”

The list of Petal It Forward participants by city and state can be found on SAF’s Petal It Forward Online Resource Center, along with a wealth of tips, tools and advice, at safnow.org/pif.

Get ready to #petalitforward
