American Coolair Celebrates 90 Years

Founded by the father and son team of James E. Graves Sr. and James E. Graves Jr., American Coolair Corp. has been manufacturing ventilation products for 90 years.

The family-owned company, which began operation in 1928 in Jacksonville, Florida, is currently run by Harry Graves Jr., Robert B. Graves and Sara Graves. They are the fourth generation of the Graves family to lead the company.

The company has grown from producing attic fans for local customers in its early years to offering comprehensive product lines for the world’s horticultural, agricultural, commercial and industrial ventilation industries.

Since the beginning, every aspect of American Coolair’s manufacturing has taken place at its state-of-the-art 210,000 square foot facility. The company designs and builds its own molds, and all die casting and machining is performed in-house.

“When we say American-made, we truly mean it,” said Harry Graves Jr., American Coolair’s current president. “Our parts are not manufactured somewhere else and shipped here for assembly. Our family prides itself on building top quality ventilation products.”

Harry Graves Sr. was the third generation of the Graves family to manage American Coolair, and the catalyst who expanded the company to its current status. He was able to consolidate the factory and administration under one roof in the 1960s by moving the company to 110,000 sq. ft. building and continuing with expansion of the production facility and warehouse. Throughout its history, the company has invested heavily in research and development along with cutting edge manufacturing equipment to produce top-quality fans.

“We’ve always prided ourselves in being a family-run business,” Graves said. “Not many companies that have been in business as long as ours have been owned the entire time by one family.”
