Young’s Plant Farm Receives MPS Certification

At Cultivate’18, MPS honored the achievements of Young’s Plant Farm in the field of sustainability by officially awarding the company its MPS-GAP certificate.

Young’s Plant Farm was established by Gene Young in 1961, and is still a family owned- and operated business consisting of three generations. The company has three locations (in Alabama and North Carolina), with a total of 40 acres of indoor and 40 acres of outdoor production, high quality annuals, perennials, poinsettias and mums are grown and shipped to different large retailers.

Young’s Plant Farm initiated the certification process in 2014 by starting with the MPS-ABC certification followed by the MPS-GAP certification.

Over the past 4 years Young’s and MPS have cooperated to use the MPS-ABC certification to further improve sustainability. After obtaining MPS-ABC the quest toward implementing sustainability practices did not stop.

In 2017 Arthij van der Veer, general coordinator MPS in North & Central America, started working with Young’s Plant Farm on the implementation of MPSGAP (Good Agricultural Practices).

Drew Young says, “MPS-GAP has provided us with a way to measure our company’s safety, product traceability, sustainability, and environmental awareness. Obtaining this certification has helped our company immediately improve in these areas, while also helping us plan for even higher future goals”.
