Michigan Garden Plant Tour Set to Kick Off By Tim Hodson

The 15th annual Michigan Garden Plant Tour is set to kick off next week (July 30) and will run through Aug. 10.

If you are going to be in the Midwest in the upcoming weeks and you have some spare time (even if you don’t) you may want to check out this tour. It is well worth your time.

The Garden Plant Tour is a free, coordinated open house of leading ornamental young plant producers throughout the state along with Michigan State University.

The tour objective is to educate growers and industry professionals about new and existing plant selections and how they perform in different settings.

It is a great opportunity learn about a wide range of ornamental crops, including popular commercial brands of annuals and perennials.

Greenhouse growers, landscapers, garden center operators and other professionals can visit each of the participating tour sites during the two-week period and observe plant performance in the landscape and in containers. You also will be able to see two All-America Selections trial gardens.

It is a great way to observe plant performance at different locations and grown under various conditions, both in the ground and in containers.

The participants in this year’s tour include:

On July 26 and 27, Raker-Roberta’s Young Plants will host The Connection. This is a two-day event that features conversation, food, concerts, greenhouse tours and other activities.

The MSU Plant Trial Field Day will take place on Aug. 7. This half-day program will feature presentations from MSU faculty and staff about a range of production topics and garden plant performance.
