Later this month, GPN will introduce its first-ever New Varieties Week.

This online event will feature 60-minute webcasts by companies presenting their new variety introductions for the 2022 season. It will take place June 29 through July 1.

Home Depot, Girl Scouts Partner to Launch Training Program for Young Women

The Home Depot Foundation and the Girl Scouts of America (GSUSA) recently announced an agreement to provide introductory trades training experience and career education for young women. The Foundation and GSUSA will host the first-ever joint construction workshops this Fall to engage Girl Scout troops throughout Atlanta, Denver and Houston, providing hands-on experience with carpentry and other building construction trades. These skilled trades workshops will be led by female industry professionals and will offer career guidance and additional education touchpoints for young women seeking trades training opportunities.

Walmart Stores to Close on Thanksgiving Day

On June 4, Walmart announced all U.S. store locations would be closed for Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 25), as a thank you to associates for their continued hard work during the pandemic. This is the second year that Walmart has closed stores on Thanksgiving Day. Throughout the pandemic, the retailer has continued to place a heavy emphasis on its associates’ well-being. Recently, the company expanded access to no-cost counseling and extended its COVID-19 emergency leave policy through Sept. 30. “Closing our stores on Thanksgiving Day is one way we’re saying ‘thank you’ to our teams for their dedication and hard work this year,” said Dacona Smith, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Walmart U.S.

Hy-Vee, Google Team Up on Tech

Hy-Vee, Inc. has signed a multiyear deal with Google Cloud to use Google services to make online shopping easier, to integrate Hy-Vee’s virtual dietitian services and enable customers to schedule other services. Using Google Cloud’s solutions, localized information and features will make it easier for customers to complete their shopping online and allow Hy-Vee to provide more personalized service, easier ordering, pickup and delivery and predictive shopping carts. “Google Cloud is helping us provide a unique and more personalized experience as we work to integrate all our digital platforms and look to further simplify the customer’s interaction with our services – whether that be in our aisles in person or online,” said Aaron Wiese, president, digital growth, and co-chief operating officer
