HortiFootprint Calculator Welcomes Its 100th Participant

Since the launch of the HortiFootprint Calculator in April 2022, developed by MPS and LetsGrow.com, interest has only increased.

There are currently 100 growers in the Netherlands and abroad who participate in the HortiFootprint Calculator. These growers mainly come from the Netherlands, Ethiopia, Kenya, Belgium, the U.S., France, Spain and Turkey. This mainly concerns floriculture producers, of which a few participants also produce propagation material.

After last week, Hoogeveen Plants can be added to the above list as the 100th participant. This large climbing plant grower from Hazerswoude-Dorp has more than 35 years of experience in growing and marketing visual garden plants. At Hoogeveen Plants, sustainability is not just a concept, but a way to make a positive contribution to the world around us. They want to increase the positive impact of their green product even further. The goal is to have their production completely climate neutral before 2030. They also hold the MPS-ABC (A+), MPS-GAP and MPS-SQ certificates, among other things .

“Our goal is to produce in a climate-positive way,” says Luuk Lemkes, production planning and stock management employee at Hoogeveen Plants. “The HortiFootprint Calculator is an excellent tool for this to provide insight into the emissions of raw materials and the entire production processes. As garden plant producers, we are one of the few sectors that can actually offer added value to a better, greener and more sustainable world. And we at Hoogeveen Plants want to be a forerunner in this sector.”

At the beginning of 2023, MPS and LetsGrow.com expect an expansion to calculation at product level and fully in accordance with the FloriPEFCR legislation. With this, the HortiFootprint Calculator complies with the upcoming laws and regulations regarding the calculation of footprints in horticulture and the HortiFootprint Calculator is able to calculate the footprint per product (group).
