
Sustainabloom adds lighting and water conservation guides
Sustainabloom has added three new sustainability guides focused on lighting and water conservation to its growing library of resources for the floriculture industry.
Developed by the American Floral Endowment, the new Lighting guide and two Water Conservation guides are designed to help greenhouse growers suppliers retailers adopt practical research-based sustainability practices. The resources are available through the Sustainabloom website at no cost.
The Lighting guide addresses greenhouse and facility lighting and how it affects plant production employee well-being and energy use. It outlines approaches for evaluating existing lighting systems improving controls incorporating daylighting and transitioning to newer lighting technologies while balancing costs and environmental impact.
Two Water Conservation guides were released with separate versions for growers and retailers. The grower guide focuses on irrigation efficiency water recycling and system maintenance to reduce inputs while maintaining crop quality. The retailer guide addresses water use in floral design display maintenance extending flower life and communicating conservation practices to customers.
Both water guides include steps for assessing water use and implementing conservation measures intended to protect local resources and support long-term operational resilience.
Sustainabloom said the new additions expand its SustainaGuides collection which continues to be updated with supporting materials research links articles and tools. The program aims to simplify sustainability for floriculture businesses of varying sizes and production models.
All Sustainabloom resources are provided free through industry support. Information on sharing participating in or supporting the program is available on the Sustainabloom website.
