Sustainabloom releases two sustainability guides for floriculture

Sustainabloom, a resource initiative launched by the American Floral Endowment in April 2024, has added two new guides to its sustainability education library: Cold Chain Management, and H-2A and H-2B Work Visas. These free guides aim to support the floriculture industry with practical tools and data-backed strategies.

The Cold Chain Management guide outlines steps greenhouse and floral businesses can take to reduce waste, improve product quality and minimize environmental impact. It includes information on temperature control, pre-cooling, sanitation, employee training and preservation techniques.

The H-2A and H-2B Work Visa guide offers an overview of the temporary labor programs available to agricultural employers, helping floriculture growers better understand the application process, regulations and compliance requirements.

Both guides are part of a growing library on the Sustainabloom website, which now hosts 18 guides covering topics such as integrated pest management, plastics use and energy efficiency.

“All of Sustainabloom’s guides are built to provide clear, easy-to-understand actions for businesses across the floriculture supply chain,” said Laura Barth, AFE’s research coordinator.

A fall webinar is scheduled to further explore the H-2A and H-2B visa programs. Sustainabloom’s resources remain freely available thanks to industry support and donations.
