Rockwell Farms Earns MPS Certification

Rockwell Farms recently earned the highest ranking in MPS-ABC, MPS-A+. The greenhouse operation has been working with MPS-ABC since 2011. The qualification has been earned through an ongoing push to improve the production circumstances, quality of the product and reduce the environmental impact, according to MPS-ABC.

Rockwell Farms, founded in 1979 by Tom Abramowski, is a family-owned and operated commercial greenhouse located in the heart of North Carolina.

In the spring and fall Rockwell focuses on flowering containers and hanging baskets. The porch and patio ready flowering annuals can be found in supermarkets across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

During the holiday season, the attention turns to holiday decorations for the interior of homes with over 500,000 poinsettias grown each year. The poinsettias are available in more than 1,200 supermarkets across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

The MPS-ABC Sustainability Scorecard has helped Rockwell Farms to measure and identify their point of improvement. The management information and independent audit have helped Rockwell to move in a green direction, according to the company. Actions have been taken to monitor and control the environmental impact (through MPS-ABC). Mima Stoeva, director of growing, has successfully led efforts to monitor and reduce the use of water, energy, fertilizers and crop protection agents.
