BrightFarms to Bring Packaged Salads to Select Walmart Stores
BrightFarms announced that its locally grown packaged salads will be available at select Walmart stores in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The salads are grown in BrightFarms’ Wilmington, Ohio greenhouse, which is a 120,000-square-foot facility that opened earlier this year and is the company’s fourth across the country. “The heart of our mission is to provide more of the population with access to fresh, delicious and nutrient-rich local produce,” said Paul Lightfoot, BrightFarms CEO. “By partnering with Walmart, the largest retail in the world, we’re able to provide a wider portion of consumers with year-round local produce that was grown by farmers in their own community.”
Schneider Electric and Scale Microgrid Solutions Announce Partnership
Schneider Electric, a global specialist in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, and Scale Microgrid Solutions, a technology company focused on developing sustainable on-site energy solutions for CEA facilities, announced an agreement to design, engineer and build a new microgrid for modern farming company Bowery Farming. The newly commissioned facility will be located in New Jersey. “Bowery has created a facility wherein crop production is already 100 times more efficient than traditional farmland, creating a greater need for reliable, efficient power,” said Ryan Goodman, CEO of Scale Microgrid Solutions.
Hydroponic Farm Coming to South Florida
A new hydroponic farm is under construction in Boynton Beach, Florida, and it expects to begin sales as soon as April 2019. Green Life Farms plans to kick off operations by selling its vegetables to supermarkets, restaurants and other distributors throughout south Florida. The operation will be housed in a 100,000-square-foot greenhouse, with future expansion planned after initial construction is complete.
