UF offers November online courses in climate, disease management

The University of Florida will offer two online greenhouse training courses focused on climate and disease management, running Nov. 10 to Dec. 12, 2025. The courses are designed for greenhouse and controlled-environment growers seeking to strengthen operational and crop management skills.

Climate Management

This course, titled Climate Management, will be led by instructors from the University of Florida, Michigan State University, Clemson University, the University of Maryland and Texas A&M, along with representatives from major environmental control companies. The course covers selecting and operating environmental control equipment and sensors to support crop growth. It is offered in advanced format and is not available every year.

Practical Disease Management

The disease management course will be taught by Carrie Harmon, director of the UF/IFAS Plant Diagnostic Center in Gainesville, Florida, which was the first university-based lab in the United States to be accredited by the National Plant Diagnostic Network. The course provides instruction on how plant diseases develop and spread, along with guidance on both organic and conventional management and safe handling of fungicides. It is part of the Plant Health Professional Certificate program.

Both courses are available in English and Spanish. There is a cost for each course, with a 20% discount for groups of five or more. Coursework is delivered fully online through videos, discussion boards and quizzes, with two modules released each week for a total of eight modules.

More information and registration are available on the UF/IFAS environmental horticulture website or by emailing greenhousetraining@ifas.ufl.edu.
