Cornell Honors Hicks Nurseries’ Late PresidentSource: Hicks Nurseries

The Cornell College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Alumni Association has named its annual lecture series the “Fred Hicks ’62 Memorial Lecture Series” in memory of Fred Hicks, the late president of Hicks Nurseries, Westbury, N.Y., and 1962 graduate of the college.

The lecture series began in 2002 when Fred Hicks invited Cornell alumni to use the Henry Hicks Learning Center at the nursery for a presentation by a Cornell faculty member. The lecture became an annual event, and after Fred Hicks passed away in 2004, his wife Marilyn and son Stephen have continued the tradition.

“Fred was a very special person who would do anything for Cornell University and education,” said Mitch Kornet, director, CALS Alumni Association Region 1. “We wanted to recognize that by naming our lecture series for him.”
