Syngenta Flowers adopts paper data loggers system
Syngenta Flowers has partnered with Tapp to replace single-use plastic data loggers with recyclable paper alternatives, reducing waste and streamlining shipping data access for growers.
The new Tapp paper data loggers will replace traditional plastic models that use lithium batteries, circuit boards and other electronic components. Instead, the new devices are made from post-harvest agricultural waste and contain no electronic parts, significantly lowering both plastic and electronic waste.

The paper devices track temperature and humidity conditions during shipment. With a tap of a smartphone, data is transferred to a secure cloud platform visible to both shipper and receiver, enabling real-time monitoring of cool-chain performance. The devices are also fully recyclable in paper waste streams, minimizing disposal concerns.
“Our new data loggers give customers instant access to shipping information via their smartphones while allowing us to monitor cool-chain performance,” said Mark Schermer, global head of flowers at Syngenta Flowers.
Initial shipments using the Tapp devices begin during week 20 from Syngenta Flowers’ farms, with full adoption expected by autumn.
The shift may influence broader sustainable practices in the horticulture industry, particularly for greenhouse and nursery growers focused on improving supply chain efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
