University of Florida online course covers greenhouse costs

Greenhouse and nursery professionals can sharpen their business management skills with the University of Florida’s upcoming online course, Costing and Profitability, which runs from Aug. 11 to Sept. 5.

Part of the university’s Greenhouse Training Online program, the course is designed for experienced growers and those with upper-level university education. Participants will learn how to estimate production costs, manage inputs and calculate profit margins using tools such as crop enterprise budgets, income statements and labor analysis.

Instruction is delivered entirely online and self-paced, with a total of eight modules and a recommended time commitment of six hours per week. Course content includes pre-recorded videos, interactive discussions with professors and weekly quizzes.

The course is available in both English and Spanish and is led by economist Charlie Hall from Texas A&M University and horticulture scientist Paul Fisher from University of Florida IFAS Extension.

“This course is not offered every year, so take advantage now,” said Paul Fisher, horticulture scientist at University of Florida IFAS Extension.

Participants can register at hort.ifas.ufl.edu/training. A 20% discount is available for groups of five or more staff.
